  • Thoughts on user experience for the new patient record

We’ve got some big changes on the way at How are you?, the main one being our new patient record. We’ll be launching this at the start of next month. We are going to be giving you an easy to use, concise way to manage your medical record. With the new version you’ll be able to view, manage and add to your record, all from one page. Features like plotting your results against a national average, will enable you to track your health and easily see where you can make improvements.

We’ve had to totally rethink the current record. One of the problems with the existing one, is that there’s only a small amount of data types that you can add information to, but there’s a wealth of data that can be tracked. There’s a whole load of new features that will be available when we launch, so you can track anything from your weight and dietary intake, to your blood pressure and immunisation history, as well as a whole host of other things. All of these measurements and records will be displayed on your record dashboard as a series of graphs and charts.

One of the biggest usability questions that we’ve asked ourselves, is: How do we get our users to add content to the site? It’s all very well designing a beautiful interface (which we have), but if no one interacts with it, then it’s a waste of time. The current version doesn’t make it easy for you to add content to your record. With the new version you’ll not only be able to add to it from anywhere on the record, you’ll be able to add measurements, results, blood test results, X-rays and anything else from anywhere on the site and even via SMS. So wherever you are, you’ll be able to keep your record up to date.

As we’ve made it so easy to add to your record, we want to make it just as easy to manage your privacy settings. You’ll be able to easily manage who sees which part of your record, having the freedom to interact with the healthcare professionals, family members and friends that you choose to.

The new patient record will be going live at the start of November, stay tuned for more announcements.
